The world of mobile internet users is abuzz with the big news of the year: next generation wireless internet networks are coming to cities and communities across the nation and the planet! It has been a seemingly long wait (in reality the lapse between third and fourth generation mobile standards has half as long as that between second and third generation standards, but don’t expect that to quell the thirst for next generation standards one bit), and thank heavens it is a wait that is already over for many millions of Americans and which will soon be over for many millions upon millions more. Having taken root for the first time in the US in the city of Baltimore in 2009, 4G networks have incrementally and steadily spread to dozens and dozens of other cities across the nation; from a measly handful at the very end of 2009, the list has already grown to many dozen by mid-2010 and is likely to reach well over 100 cities and towns by this time in 2011…all of which is really, really exciting if you love your mobile internet connection!

The spread of 4G is mostly concentrated in urban areas where much of the infrastructure needed to deploy such networks is already in place, and all that needs to be done is to have a handful of new, fourth generation radio transmitters placed in piggy-back fashion on preexisting towers/structures. This sort of thrifty form of deploying fourth generation networks further consolidates what is already considered to be the most economical of all mobile internet communications standards, thanks to the brilliant and powerful technology that has gone into WiMax (the currently dominant transmission system used in fourth generation networks). Nonetheless, next generation wireless won’t only be making its appearance in major urban areas over the coming months and years but will also be popping up in many parts of the more rural and remote parts of the continent. This is because, to the great surprise of many of the biggest telecoms in the country, rural Americans have demonstrated a tremendous appetite for high speed mobile internet services. The result of that phenomenon, as unexpected as it happens to be, is that these companies find that the return-on-investment in these kinds of remote places is not that much inferior to the return-on-investment when dealing with the big cities. In short, next generation wireless is coming to a city and a farm near you-assuming it hasn’t already shown up!

The difference that fourth generation mobile makes is, undoubtedly, quite huge: we’re talking more than twice as fast as 3G connections in almost all cases. In fact, at certain non-peak hours it might even be possible for a fourth generation wireless user to download files (big, multimedia files that never before would have been accessible from a mobile device) at speeds of up to 12 Mbps or even more…and that is only a teaser of what is to come. Within the next year or two, data transfer speeds are likely going to careen past the 20 and then the 30 and the 40 Mbps mark!

In order to take a bite out of the Apple iPad, the multi-tasking gadget soon to hit the hands of fans, Amazon acquired Touchco, or so it is suspected. Touchco is a start-up company based in New York that specializes in touch screen technology.

With no commercially released products, Touchco is a new company that began their project at the Media Research Lab at New York University. Touchco has a small staff of six, and they have created flexible technology and multi-touch technology that will allow the touches of several users on a device simultaneously.

Although a mute subject with Amazon and Touchco reps., it is said that Amazon will move Touchco staff members to Cupertino, CA. This is where the Kindle hardware division is housed. Now, what is so great about Touchco technology? It is called interpolating force-sensitive resistance. Only costing about $10 per square foot, it can be put into transparent displays. Currently, iPad and iPhone capacitive touch screens that are used are more expensive, and unlike the Touchco technology, it doesn’t detect an unlimited amount of simultaneous touch points.

The technology can tell the difference between a finger-touch and the pressure of a pen. It does this by utilizing resistors that are sensitive to different levels of pressure. Touchco’s technology works with full-color LCD like the iPad and up and coming Hewlett-Packard’s tablet PCs.

E-Ink may be close to dying out because with the entry of the Touchco technology, Amazon can offer the world a full-color touch screen Kindle. This isn’t intended to put down the e-ink technology. It is great for reading long books, but can lag while viewing reference works, multimedia and other sources of entertainment.

Amazon can’t stay stagnant. They can lower the price of the Kindle to fight against the iPad, or come up with a new gadget that tops the iPad. The acquisition leads to an assumption that Amazon is going to fight. Also we may see the end of the cumbersome keyboard, and shiny new virtual one.

Amazon recognizes the importance of competing with Apple. They are creating apps that are like current iPhone and eventual iPad apps. If Amazon wants to stay on top of the market with Kindle, a new and updated version is needed. Many owners may be in the process of retiring their e-reader, opting instead, for the more modern iPad from Apple.

Just an interesting addition, if you go to Touchco’s website or YouTube page, you will find no information. In fact, on their website they left a message that reads, “Thank you for your interest in Touchco. As of January 2010, the company is no longer doing business.”

If you are planning to take an Oahu vacation, Waikiki Beach is a great place to start. It is a beautiful beach where you can view one of the island’s stunning landmarks, Diamond Head.

Another must-visit site to enjoy your holiday is Lanikai Beach. It is highly recommended that you visit the Oahu beaches in the morning, so you can have plenty of time left to see the Polynesian Cultural Center.

But if you have more and you often go to outside of your home, of course new Dell XPS or new HP Pavilion will be better for you. Everything is up to your need, your job, and your personality. So what is better, a laptop or a PC? It all depends on you. Just remember that PC actually can offer you more than a new laptop but you can’t bring your PC to outside of your room.

One of the best things about having a hobby is buying

me tell you about some of the knitting gadgets that are
available to knitters, and then I will tell you my top *6*
favorite knitting gadgets.

Needles and yarn aside, if you look around there are
numerous knitting gadgets. There are stitch markers, used
for marking a particular place in your knitting where
decreases or increases take place; row counters which keep
track of each row as you are knitting; point protectors
which are placed on the needle points to protect your work
as well as yourself; bobbins, pom-pom makers, stitch gauges,
graph paper, yarn swifts and ball winders, which can be
useful for certain advanced knitting projects, but will
probably spend more time collecting dust for most knitters.

So that is why now we come to my top *6* favorite
knitting gadgets,

and why I like them so:

#1 – Tape measure – for knitting, as for sewing, your
tape measure will prove to be indispensable. Whatever the
project, you always have need to know the length and width
of your knitting. Make sure if your tape measure wears out
or becomes distorted in any way, that you replace it. This
item helps to make you look good!

#2 – Scissors – I like the small variety, especially
the ones that fold up. They are handy to take anywhere
(well, almost anywhere), and you can expect to use them
frequently. But, if you have larger scissors, they work,
too. I would not recommend pinking shears, though; they are
for sewing projects only.

#3 – Cable needles – as you become more adept at
knitting, one of the easiest new stitches to add on is the
cable stitch. Cable stitches can be knitted in many
variations, but they always need the cable needle in order
to utilize the stitch. Cable needles come in various sizes,
and are always pointed at both ends. Some have a “bend” in
them, and some are “U” shaped, while most are simply
straight. They are also shorter than a traditional,
straight, knitting needle. So if a pattern calls for cable
stitches, better have some cable needles around!

#4 – Stitch holders – these look like giant safety
pins. They are especially handy when knitting sweaters and
you need to place the neck stitches someplace until you need
them again, so on to the stitch holder they go! Stitch
holders can be very small (2″ or so) up to about 10″ in
length. There are many varieties, but stay with the simple
versions, for best results.

#5 – Yarn needle – aka a tapestry needle. These
needles are longer than regular sewing needles, and have
blunter points and larger eyes. They are used to join your
patterns together when finished. For any knitter, they are
a must-have.

#6 – Pins – last but not least, pins! Anyone who
sews or knits, needs pins; straight pins, safety pins, T-
pins. When you buy straight pins, make sure they have
colored tops; these are easiest to see in your knitting. T-
pins are great for blocking your patterns, and also good for
pinning heavier knits together. Safety pins always make a
great substitute for stitch holders, or to mark a spot in
your knitting that you need to refer to later on.

So, there you have it! Six gadgets I can’t live
without when I knit. If you are very serious about
knitting, and like to see your project look its best when
finished, then these *6* wonderful knitting gadgets should
always be close by.
